START A CENTRE
Start a reading centre as a private business with our support , or as a community development project.
Experience has shown that people with a background in education - especially languages - and psychology have proven to be the most successful in running a reading centre.
Where?
Experience has shown that a reading centre located at a school or within walking distance from a school to be the most successful.
How?
Reading Zone intervention programs in centres consist of three distinct areas namely
- Reading and learning readiness program (5 - 8 years old)
A unique programme, developed to prepare the young learner for reading and learning through play and movement with music. This programme is based on the latest research in reflex inhibition, neurophysiology and developmental psychology.
- Reading interventions (grade 1 to tersiary level)
A comprehensive reading assessment enables a focused approach in reading intervention. We make use of technology - assisted reading programs as part of our holistic approach to reading difficulties, as this is the medium the young learners identify with.
- Study interventions (grade 6 to tertiary level)
Reading Zone developed a practical and hands-on course in study methods. Our course focus on the problem areas of every individual learner and interventions are directed as a result of a comprehensive assessment in study methods and attitudes.
- Academic research
We base all our interventions on sound academic research in the field of reading and learning. Our research results have been peer reviewed and published internationally and we use our research results to improve and develop our intervention programs.
